I have a laptop with wireless broadband. Can I connect my ps3 to the internet through the laptop by connecting the ps3 directly to the laptop with my ethernet cable? If so, what steps do i take concerning my network settings on laptop/ps3 respectively?

The best way to connect any console to the internet for online gaming is via a router which is a more direct connection to the internet, if your laptop is on the internet then the likeliness is that you are connecting that through a router, and router usually have enough ports to accomidate for several stations to connect to (eg. a pc and a laptop, or a laptop and a ps3). it MAY be possible to connect directly through your laptop, however this will complicate things and i cant directly confirm what you need to change on your settings to allow this type of connection without seeing your current settings and your laptops capability!Crossover cables are usually used when data is being transfered from one place to another place that differs, for example, PS3 to router. Whereas the standard ethernet is usually used for things such as PC to PC connections. Perhaps the cable you got with your console is infact a crossover? Its hard to say because i dont own a PS3, however the details i have spoken of are generally the standard facts in the world of connecting to the online gaming community!
